My beginnings in the entertainment industry started as a drummer back in 87 playing in original rock and cover bands performing at various venues in and around Saskatoon. In 1988 I started working part time @ St.Johns music where I met and helped start Night Owl Audio with Bill Webster.
Having DJ business cards before I graduated high school back then was pretty wild.
I ran with Billy for 10 years or so till about 1999 or early 2000 when I decided to change Entertainment paths and take my Pyrotechnician's License that I used during our Big High School shows and enter the Film community where I worked for 5 years doing nothing other than Special Effects and Props working on Feature Films and Television Series and commercials all over Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta having fun and basically starting fires and blowing anything up I could get my hands on oh yeah and I shot quite a few people over the years too :)
In 2000 I also started doing part time stage hand work for both Sask. Place and Centennial Auditorium setting up and tearing down and Running a Spotlight on most of the shows rolling thru town. Having seen how the 'Big Boys' design, set up and tear things down as well as how things get properly packed was a real treat. I learned from some of the best crew people in the world working for the biggest acts like.... KISS, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain,Brooks and Dunn, Metallica, and other shows like Cirque andThe Juno's,Disney on Ice, Blue Man Group, Phantom of the Opera etc.
Now altho I continued in film after 2005 I did pick up a 'day job' along the way working as the Shop Manager for Production Lighting in Saskatoon. Handling all sorts of shows from Nightclubs to theaters to bigger events like the yearly Tele-miracle show and some of the bigger ones like the Saskatoon Synchrotron Grand Opening and Saskatchewan On Ice at Sask. Place with over 1000 skaters on the ice for the finale!!
Now during the middle of this seeing that I wasn't busy enough as it was :) I went back to Dj'ing when I started FX Music Productions in Saskatoon with a partner providing very high end DJ shows that featured two guys with years and years of experience and Top of the line Audio Gear as well as a $20,000 Computer controlled moving light show .All highlighted with a nice backdrop of white spandex and brushed aluminum box trussing. No other show in Saskatoon looked sexier!!
We ran FX for just over 4 years having a ton of fun while doing it but when my partner had an awesome over seas business venture come his way, He had to jump on it. I decided against continuing on with out him as we were a hell of a team and I knew a good part of that initial spark and fun would be missing.
Now fast forward a few more years and I find myself missing the entertaining and fun of putting on a good performance and of course Cranking up the Tunes!! So I made one stop into the one and only company I could see myself working for ELITE DJ's. I had met Corrie back thru Production Lighting and we always had a good repot with each other and I liked the way he did things, Straight Ahead with NO B.S. !! Which is how I like to operate. Can I say that? Yes!! I just did!!
As a DJ, Tony has fun when his crowd is enjoying the party. As such, he works hard to make sure every event, wedding and party is a good time for all! When preparing to dj a wedding, Tony always takes time to confer with the bride and groom to make sure the evening begins and ends just right. Tony knows his music, but better yet, after years of experience, has a keen ability to know his crowd. Everyone has a good time at dj Tony's events!
I have been in the DJ business for 17 years, but have had a life revolving around music and entertainment as long as I can remember. As soon as I could walk I began tap and jazz dance lessons and have since also participated in ballroom dance, ballet and hip hop dancing. I also spent several years as a competitive synchronized swimmer, was a member of several choirs and dramatic endeavours. Although I thoroughly enjoyed each of these pursuits, I found my true passion in DJing. My father owned a mobile DJ company for several years so I was exposed to the industry at a very early age. I accompanied him to a gig for the first time as a young teenager and was instantly hooked. While my peers spent their weekends partying, I spent them learning from my father how to be the life of the party!
I have been DJing since 1995 and managing DJ companies since 2003. I joined the team at Elite DJ's in April 2011 and am loving it! I also previously had a residency for five years at the Longbranch, one of Saskatoon's most popular country bars on Thursday nights. I have also had guest appearances at many other clubs, including Jax, The Pat and the Shark Club.
If you asked me what my favourite thing about DJing is, I would tell you it is impossible to choose just one thing. I love being in front in crowd and feeding off of their energy. I work hard to make sure everyone at an event is having a great time, one of my favourite things to hear is 'I can't believe Uncle George is actually dancing, that never happens!'
My aptitude for entertaining has really shone through since I started hosting Name That Tune and Game Show Mania back in 2005. These are two very interactive shows that really allow me to interact and have tons of fun with the crowd. Check out our Christmas Parties page for more info on these great shows!
As well as being an entertainer, I am enjoying learning more technical parts of DJing. I started using Serato (the highest standard in DJ software) along with turntables in 2008 and have since been honing my mixing skills and hope to learn how to scratch sometime soon!
Just as I can't choose one favourite thing about DJing, I don't have a favourite type of music, there's just too much to choose from! Top 40, rock, dance, country, hip hop, funk, soul, Motown, folk, blues, I love it all! My music knowledge is vast and one thing I enjoy doing is playing forgotten favourites; those songs that you haven't heard in forever, but when you hear them again you think 'Wow, I LOVE this song!'
That about sums things up for me, thanks for checking me out and I look forward to making your event unforgettable!
Even though Todd has been DJ'ing since cassette tapes were cool, he likes to stay on top of the current music scene, and this is readily reflected in his style. Whether it's Old School 70's Rock or a modern sampling of Dance, Hip-Hop, and Country Two-Stepping, Todd's friendly and personable attitude will be a welcome addition to your special event booked through Elite DJs.
Looking to spice up your gathering with a Karaoke DJ? Look no further! Todd's easy-going attitude and jovial manner will have you and your guests happily belting out those classics and creating some fantastic
Memories. ...Memories of good music, great friends, and fantastic fun!
How do you condense 36 years of DJ experiences into a few short lines? I have no idea, but here goes. I began my DJ career at the age of 25 while working for CJGX radio in Yorkton Saskatchewan. I was actually coerced into my first function because the manager of the Garry Robertson Music franchise was short handed for a christmas party. I really didn't want to do it but when the smoke cleared, what a great time I had, and believe me I was hooked.
I had previous stage experience from being a radio personality and playing school parties and whatnot, but nothing like I experienced that first night.
It's been a long ride, and I think I've seen anything. I was there in Winnipeg, Manitoba when Disc Jockeys were finally allowed to play in nightclubs. The Musician's union had a stranglehold on the supply of music in nightclubs, and our long fought battle finally paid off.
I helped negotiate the first viable Disc Jockey music license with the Canadian Disc Jockey Association and the Audio Video Licensing Agency to allow disc jockeys to use recorded dance music for professional purposes, and the basics of that license still hold true today.
I founded Great Rock Music in 1993. One of the first companies to legally provide music on CDs for the Disc Jockey and nightclub industry.
I maintained and managed the largest franchised disc jockey system in Canada from 1981 to 2005 when I finally retired from the business.
In 2010 my wife and I moved back to Saskatchewan and boredom overtook me. I needed to get back into the music game. I came upon Corrie of Elite DJs and we made an agreement to work together and I have been doing so, nearly every weekend since.
When it comes to parties, I believe there is nothing I haven't experienced from school parties to weddings, socials, anniversaries and corporate functions. That experience allows me the ability to confidently approach any music situation and deliver the goods needed for a successful party.
I truly enjoy weddings, and corporate christmas parties, Karaoke and music video shows and would truly enjoy playing for your function.
PARTY ROCK!!! That's the name of the game for a DJ Nelson event! But don't let that statement fool you, my day job as a civil engineer also guarantees a high level of professionalism for "that special day" as well. It also means that I'm a total gear head, and I like to incorporate that into Elite DJ's events. The way I like to describe it is that I've broken away from the traditional "ones and twos" and instead utilize a fully customized MIDI setup to kick those all night dance parties into high gear!
My love of mixing music first really took form when I used to record all of my favourite music from CDs onto cassettes and rock out with the Walkman; the coolest nerd on the block! I always wanted a set of turntables or CDJs of my own but was never able to get into any. Fast-forwarding, I met future Elite DJ's Event Coordinator, Serena, in early 2011 and when she asked if I would like to become a DJ, I knew I wouldn't let the opportunity slip by.
My personal playlist includes lots of house (progressive, tech, disco), dub step, breaks, hip-hop, and country, but I'm a big fan of all types of music so get your requests in!
So if you enjoy bumpin', twisting', shuffling', or two-steppin' then enlist Elite DJ's and DJ Nelson for that next epic music experience!
DISCLAIMER: Shufflin' is infectious and is known to cause "good times", for which there is no cure. Please consult your Elite DJ before shufflin'.

Hey there!
DJ Kat at your service! I'm a little newer to the djing scene, but have no fear! I have had many years of experience with public speaking and announcing. I'm a pretty laid back, easy going person, who has a love for music and dancing.
I really like all kinds of music, but have a sweet spot for the 80s and the 50s. Crazy combination, I know!
I want to make sure that you and your guests have a blast and enjoy every minute of your party/wedding. Be silly, be goofy and dance your face off!
It is a privilege to be a part of your special day/event so thank you in advance. I really look forward to making it a memorable time for everyone. I can't wait to meet you and get the party started!
Sincerely,
Kat
